Yesterday, Roper Mountain Science Center
[link] located in Greenville, SC held a scientific event based on the upcoming movie
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. We (being my family) went...
There were exibits set up with different ascpects of Indy's movie adventures put into real life, like a mock archelogical digsite, some fossils, WWII artifacts, a mini rainforest with snakes, bugs, and a parrot (his name was Bob), and even a display of movie props (Indy's hat and bag, the Grail journal, the Holy Grail, the idol from
Raiders, Short Round's baseball cap). Wish someone (points at brother) remembered a camera.
Now, Roper Mountain is an actual mountain. Not a high one, but mountainous none the less. Its crisscrossed with nature trails that go straight to the top and around. Which is probably why they had school busses shuttling people from one part to the other. Guess how we got around. Go on, guess. Give up...?
WE WALKED THE FREAKIN' TRAILS!!!!!!
2 out of 3 of our party thought the busses were for Boy Scouts and school children only, therefore, marched up the almost vertical trail to the Science Center.
I'm not a fit person, mind you. So by the time I made it up, I was so out of breath I couldn't talk. Literally could not talk. Not a syllable. But I did see people get off the shuttle bus that I saw on the other side. The bus was for everyone.
We took the damned bus back to the car...
Now, so far I sound sour about the whole experience. Not so. I may still be sore today from out trek, but there was two things that mabe the imprompto hike worth it:
One, in the Science Center they had exibits of space exploration in fiction. Not Indy related, but part of the observitory and giant telescope. One of these was Star Trek. I was shocked, pleased, and found the energy to ask the service desk how much would the whole thing cost (Christmas comes sooner than you think).
Two, Doctor David West Renyolds.
[link] Damn that man is cute. Flirty, too. I swear we made eye contact and smiled goofily the entire time he was on stage talking about his job as a 'real life Indiana Jones.'
For bonus points, he had his own bull whip.

Overall, I'll say it was a good day. We all had a lot of fun, saw some neat things, and I now have a new crush. And this one is a real person.
