Okay, I was just BLOWN AWAY by the movie! JJ Abrahms quelled all my fears and flourished my hopes for the Trek franchise with this piece of sci-fi action.

The opening scene featuring Nero and his crew of miners arriving in the past and blowing up the USS Kelvan (and having George Kirk Sr. sacrifice himself to save his wife and son) had be choked up. There was a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes... *sniff*

Young Spock was cute in school! :D Though one has to wonder where was the logic is in the bullying by his classmates. Don't worry, though, Widdle Spock kicked the leader's ass.

Young Kirk's troubled attitude is explained (IMO) subtlely by having what I think was his stepdad bitching him out and telling him "just because his mother is off world isn't an excuse to misbehave." The car flying into the ravine is awesome, though I have my doubts whether the cop was an android of some such or organic...

You can tell Spock loves his mother in the next scene, even if he dosen't say it he shows it when the council calls his half-human status a handicap.

If you listen closely in the bar scene before the fight, you can hear Uhura ordering a 'Cardassian Sunrise.' Tee hee!

Speaking of Uhura, the relationship with Spock was weird at first... But y'know, its growing on me. :) Kinda cute.

Nero was intimidating but they didn't explore him a whole lot. Didn't feel the hatred like you do with Khan...

Karl Urban is the BEST McCoy they could have found! Chekov is cute but like someone else said, he was channeling Wesely Crusher. Sulu kicked ass and had a neat extendable katana on the drill-over-Vulcan scene.

Now Scotty... He was funny, but not the Scotty we're used to. His original portrayl really didn't shine though like the others... But he had a pet tribble.

It was awesome to see Leonard Nimoy back on the screen, big or little. :) He did great passing the baton on to the new cast, though I can't help but feel he could have done a little more plot-wise the scene with him meeting New Spock was touching (even if it ended on a cheesy note. ...I like cheese.)

All in all, I enjoyed myself and I'm definetly going back to see it as much as I can afford. I do suggest you read the prequal comic and go in with an open mind and heart, but its a great summer movie.

And one I'm sure we all hope revives the franchise with new life. :)

Of course!

It answered my long held question: how the hell did Cap'n Jack find a hand that fell from the sky in a place like Cardiff? :D Now we know.
